Culture
Valdorians are often outspoken and highly engaged in public life. They value family, proper etiquette and civic duty, but also social life. Although Valdoro is officially a religious nation, not all of its people are necessarily overtly pious but still follow the cultural traditions associated with their faith.
Religion
The Radiant Law is the official religion of Valdoro. It is a monotheistic religion with a religious leader referred to as the X and has a classic hierarchical structure. Some Valdorians are secular, and some secretly practice other faiths, however, they do not dare to openly admit it in fear of persecution.
Government
A theocracy ruled by religious authorities. Its people tend to see faith as the foundation of civilization.
Relations
Other nations make a distinction between the people of Valdoro and it's government. Generally the people are well liked, though the goverment is considered imposing.
Ordan
Relation: Tense
Valdoro respects Ordan's importance but disapproves of its ban on organized religion. Valdorian officials see Ordan as spiritually misguided.
1944 — The Lantern Office Raids
Ordan discovered illegal Valdorian religious offices operating in Odrava and shut
them down overnight. Several priests were arrested, and Valdoro still remembers the
event as humiliation and spiritual persecution.
Karsov
Relation: Respectful
Valdoro respects Karsov's discipline. While Karsov is not religious, Valdoro views its protective role as honorable and almost sacred in practice.
1896 — The Night of the Broken Gate
An invading force from beyond the north-western opening breached the outer defenses of
Karsov. Valdoro sent reinforcement to hold the line while Karsovian forces regrouped.
Valdoro remembers and honors the sacrifices of Karsovians that fought alongside them that night.
Besa
Relation: Distant
Valdoro sees Besa as sincere but spiritually disorganized. The Valdorian clergy considers Besan customs to be heretic but people to be harmless.
Thalor
Relation: Polite
Valdoro respects Thalor's traditions but disagrees with its polytheistic worship.
Strigavia
Relation: Tense
Valdoro is deeply suspicious of Strigavia's hidden rites and ancient families. It does not seek conflict, but Valdorian authorities consider Strigavian occult practices morally dangerous and blasphemous.
1971 — The Lost Procession
A group of Valdorian missionaries went missing in the northern mountains of Strigavia,
their bodies were found buried under an avalanche.
The Strigavian family that owned the local land treated the bodies according to their own rituals.
When the deceased Valdorian priests were returned to their homeland
the Valdorian church denounced the Strigavian family for blasphemy and demanded a public apology.
Strigavia refused to apologise. Valdoro considers this a great disrespect.
